The Kaski & Untiedt Family Trees

 I haven't posted here or in the Facebook family tree groups for a little while, but, no, I haven't stopped researching. I spend at least one hour every night sitting on the couch in the living room, scrolling through the archives of what I already have and making sure I've squeezed all the juice out of these lemons (ok, they aren't lemons in a negative).  Finally finished piles of electronic records that were tagged to my tree when I was researching haphazardly on the Ancestry app. I've really got to stop doing that.   Starting last night, I started working through the 800 records that I've attached to my RootsMagic family tree, but haven't checked off my list as having squeezed all their juice. Arrghh, always best to do it right the first time. All these to say, a few weeks of some fairly mundane researching and organizing, which just helps in the long term to make sure I've got more facts to try and connect to new records.

Such a great treasured picture was just a Facebook conversation away. So excited to share this picture provided by Jean Winkleman, a first cousin twice removed.  To the far left, is Carrie Anderson, my 3 times great-grandmother. Standing in the middle is Bertha (Brita) Olson Anderson, my 2 times great-grandmother; she's next to her husband, John H. Anderson, my 2 times great-grandfather. The children must be (left to right) Annie, Karoline, and Sarah Anderson. My great-grandmother, Tillie Anderson, was not born when this was taken.

Another incredible find. Today I found the Declaration of Intention of my great-great grandfather John H. Anderson, declaring his intention to become a citizen of the United States, disavowing his loyalty to King Oscar II of Sweden and Norway. The document also appears to bear my 2 times great-grandfather's signature from 1888.   Here's the first two generations of descendants that were directly impacted by this declaration. 

As a keeper of the family history, I was beyond excited when my uncle Don Untiedt, offered to open his vast archive of family records, notes, and pictures. I had the absolute privilege to spend the last 48 hours at his home taking item after item and electronically archiving it for prosperity. While there's more work to be done, I've already captured electronically more than 500 items, which I'm looking very forward to sharing here, in hopes that anyone who is ever interested, can locate it. I will also continue the work I've been doing of loading every item to my Family Tree records, tagging it to the relevant persons. Those records are then loaded to a GEDCOM family tree that anyone can download, and on Ancestry. which of course, is the current primary place people go to look for data such as this.  And so, if you are an Untiedt, Mann, Schwager, or Ahrendt, who wants to view our past, check back often over the next 6 months, as I've got a lot of things to share. Organizing photos and I'm not 100% sure I know who is in these pictures which I believe all come from the Morud side of the family. The below image shows when each of my ancestors immigrated to the United States.  3 generations ago, 4 of my great-grandparents made the journey across the sea coming from Finland (1903), Norway (1916), and Germany (1882 and 1895). One from each branch of my tree. 4 generations prior was the mass migration that formed my American family tree branches. On my paternal line, ancestors came from Scandinavia (1874 Sweden, 1872 Finland, and 1866 & 1889 Norway). From my maternal line, they all came from Germany (1867, 1875 and 1884). My earliest US ancestors came 5 generations before me and were my Ahrendt 2x great-grandparents, who traveled to New York together in 1855 from Germany.
