Missing Kaski records #1: Erma Mabel Kaski

I NEED HELP

I've been digging through Ancestry for data on my paternal grandfather, Elroy Kaski, and am trying to build a comprehensive descendant tree for his parents, Mariah Alvina and Peter August. Since data on living people is usually protected, it can be hard to have a high degree of comfort when connecting trees. So, for each spouse who married in to that familial line, I am also gathering data of the spouse's parents, siblings, and grandparents. Having that extra information on the spouse's line, not only helps to tell the story of our direct relatives, but also makes it much easier to trace the relative through all the twists and turns of life.

The ASK

I'm breaking this down to 5 separate posts, each focused on a different child of Peter August and Mariah Alvina; maybe you hold the key that fits the door to that information. Do you know the answer to any of my inquiries below?
  1. Post a Comment at the bottom of this page. Note: All comments require my approval before becoming visible to others; if a comment contains confidential data about a living person, I will keep the comment private, and update this post to reflect I've received the needed information.
  2. Contact Me using the Contact Me form in the green section on the far right of this page.
  3. Connect with me on Facebook and message me there.
All three contact methods work well for me; use whatever approach is easiest for you. Thanks in advance for your assistance.

Erma Mabel Kaski

I'm very excited to have recently connected on Facebook with Pete Nichols, who I optimistically believe can fill in some of these holes, and help me connect with other members of his family who can help with the answers he doesn't have.

Erma
  • When were Erma's divorces with Elmer Nichols and Theodore Cook?
Eldon
  • For Eldon Peter Nichols, aka Kordon, when was he born? The Nevada Death Index has a D.O.B. of November 23, 1946, but the California Birth Index has November 26, 1947?
Ellis
  • For Ellis Nichols' wife, Barbara Church, where was she born, and what was her mother's name?
  • For Ellis Nichols' son, Peter Nichols, what is his middle name? When did he divorce Sibene, and when did he marry Donna? I'm also missing parents' names for both spouses. Does Peter have any children other than Jennifer? Does Jennifer have any children or a spouse?
  • For Ellis Nichols' daughter, Stephanie, where was she born? Did she ever remarry or have any children other than Paul? What's the name of her ex-husband's parents? Did her son, Paul, ever marry or have any children? Where was her son, Paul, born?
  • For Elizabeth Nichols, does she go by "Sandy"? For Paul's wife, Denise Morgan, what are her key facts (DOB, parents)? Where did Denise and Paul get married? Where was son, Shawn, born, and has he married or had children? For marriage to Audra, when did it happen and end? Where was Audra born, and what are her parents' names? What are the DOBs for Travis and Logan? Have they married or had any children? Did Gayle marry or have any kids?
  • For Babe Nichols' family, where was Cindy born? What's her husband's name and facts (DOB, parents)? Did they have any children? Did Eric pass away in Denver? What are Liisa's husband's facts (DOB, parents)? Does Liisa have children? Did Jason marry or have any kids?

I can't wait to see what bits of information come my way from this blog post; as a bonus, if you have pics you are willing to share here, I'd love to add them. Thanks in advance for your help!

Peter August Kaski's journey to America

At the age of 26, Peter August Kaski brought our Kaski branch to the United States. He started the ship portion of his journey with a 40 hour trip on the SS Rollo from Gothenburg, Sweden to Hull, England.  Most emigrants would then take the Paragon Railway train between Hull and Liverpool. From Liverpool, Peter August Kaski then sailed for 10 days on the S.S. Aurania to New York, disembarking on April 24, 1903.  On the ship manifest below, Peter A. Kaski is listed on line 10. He declared having $12 in his pocket and was headed to Bryant, South Dakota. Originally, it was written that he was headed to meet his brother, J. Kaski, but that was then crossed out and replaced with the name Oskar Peterson of Deadwood, South Dakota. There is evidence that his brother, Jakob Krister Kaski was in Bryant by 1911, and is likely the brother referenced in this record. How he made his journey from New York to Bryant has, thus far, been lost to time, but we know he would end up in Bryant, Sout...

The 100 Club

There are some good genes out there, letting some of our ancestors achieve the epic age of 100. Cheers to these centenarians! Maternal line 105 years : L illian (Ahrendt) Galbreath lived to the age of 105. Lillian is a double first cousin 3 times removed who died in June 2004. A "double cousin" means she shares more than one set of grandparents; in her case, Lillian's grandparents were my 3x-great grandparents from both my Ahrendt & Weinreben and my Stroh & Mohr family lines. My software program doesn't display the above visual for both sets of grandparents when there is a double cousin, so below, I'm showing how Lillian's mother, Dorothea Stroh, is related to me. 101 years :   Elizabeth (Guhl) Ahrendt  joined our tree through her marriage to Albert B. Ahrendt, a first cousin three times removed.  100 years & 14 days : Anna Ida (Boldt) Albers  made the centenarian cut-off by 2 weeks. Those Ahrendts sure have some serious longevity.  Anna's an...

Unknown B&W album - likely Colorado

I had the pleasure of digitally archiving the records and pictures held by my Uncle Don Untiedt. The pictures included below were all together in a single album. However, I have no additional notes on who or where these pictures were taken.  Do you have any answers about the subject or location? In one picture there is a sign for "Dirty Woman Creek". When I Google that, there is such a place located in Colorado. However, if there were other "Dirty Women" creeks, it's reasonable that over time they have been changed to something more P.C. However, given the potential Colorado connection, I'm tagging these as part of the Untiedt line for now. [Update: since originally posting this, I was able to read the top of one building which is excerpted below. It reads "Pikes Peak Motor Co". Googling that name there is such a place located in Penrose, Colorado.] Do you recognize any of the buildings? Any of the children? Maybe the horses? Is this Penrose, Color...
